Background
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was formed just eleven days after the September 11th attacks. From a time of great sorrow an agency was born to safeguard our country on the Federal, State, and even county level. The agency’s main goal is to create a defense system against any future attacks as well as develop a response to attacks that might occur. In November of 2002, the Department became a stand-alone agency with the Federal Agencies that we have today being formed slowly afterwards. Now, DHS strives to protect our nation and our values in every area. Find out more about the mission here on the DHS website.
